about
John has learned what it means to worship in spirit and in truth. From his early days leading worship on campus at Texas A&M to now, John continues to share an urgency and passion for God that is clearly contagious. John's new album, "Join in the Song," is a collection of songs inspired by life and by the God we serve, written in light of real-life struggles. John calls students to trust God when life is hard, and he's not afraid to share his own dark days as testimony of God' trustworthiness. On October 22, 2007, halfway through recording his sixth project, John's third child was born 4 months too soon. The next 5 months were a roller coaster of emotions, testing the faith John had lived and stood to proclaim for many years. Given less than a 1% chance of their son surviving, John and Kelly, day after day, begged God to see supernatural miracles, knowing only His intervention would save their son. It was in these moments that the calling, ministry, music, message and meaning of John and his family were redefined. Every day and night was a marathon of exhaustion. "I wish I could say that I had a steadfast assurance that God was in control, but I would be lying if I said that. There were many moments, on the outside, I was doing my best to display that sort of trust, so that my wife felt comfort, but deep inside my core, I would be secretly asking God if He was there,... seeing all this... in the middle of it?!" "'God is Here' is a song on the new project, "Join in the Song," that came out of John praying certain statements to God over and over...

"I remember in the beginning praying very specific prayers in times of crisis with Kyle's little body...like, in the first few weeks while they were battling with Kyle's blood pressure, heartbeat, etc, I prayed,...God, only YOU can touch a heart and make it beat,...Then when his lungs, already totally not formed or ready to work, were damaged from the ventilator, I prayed, 'only you can touch a life and make it breathe...' and so my prayers continued over Kyle's body, ultimately becoming the song, God is Here."

This story, Kyle's story, an extremely hard story to have lived and walked, is one that John and Kelly both know God will use for His glory, to advance His kingdom, and hopefully to grow and deepen His people's belief in Him.

John's primary passion is to help people see God in a bigger way. The songs he writes are focused on the majesty of God, our obedience to Him, and living the life of Christ, a life of sacrifice. Simply put, his songs point us toward focusing all our attention and affection on God. In addition, John has a heart that is concerned with people and with allowing them to see truth - the powerful, healing and life saving message of Christ. His concern for God's people has been evident in every area of his ministry; being on a church staff, touring his recording projects and even in his early days in college, where he led worship for many Bible studies including leading over 6000 students weekly at Breakaway Bible Study at Texas A & M University. John has now released six recordings, both studio and live.

John's newest project, 'Join in the Song,' is his most honest and vulnerable lyrical and musical accomplishment to date.Featuring many new songs that the church is already embracing, such as "God is faithful, Everlasting Love, You are God and Beautiful Jesus, this project is already proving to be a favorite to many who have followed John for years.

"I believe God is using and will use this project in a more powerful way than anything I have been a part of in the past... we have seasoning now that we didn't have then,... that sort of James 1 type of perseverance,... which lends itself to a powerful message to share,... nothing contrived, but just gut level honesty that I can't help but talk about..."

Today, John, his wife Kelly, and their three boys live in the Woodlands, TX. That's right,... three boys,... Kyle is home with his brothers, Jadon and Jack, and doing incredible! He is a supernatural miracle of God, whom God will use to stretch people's belief and view of how big God truly is.

When not touring or writing, John serves as one of the worship leaders and songwriters for Woodsedge Community Church. He is the founder of 220 Ministries, which hosts discipleship camps, conferences, and retreat weekends. Kelly, his wife, spends her time as a mom, homemaker, as well as developing a ministry of her own to families of preemies and young women in their community.
